Summary

“Only staying active will make you want to live a hundred years。” —Japanese proverb

According to the Japanese, everyone has an ikigai—a reason for living。 And according to the residents of the Japanese village with the world’s longest-living people, finding it is the key to a happier and longer life。 Having a strong sense of ikigai—the place where passion, mission, vocation, and profession intersect—means that each day is infused with meaning。 It’s the reason we get up in the morning。 It’s also the reason many Japanese never really retire (in fact there’s no word in Japanese that means retire in the sense it does in English): They remain active and work at what they enjoy, because they’ve found a real purpose in life—the happiness of always being busy。

In researching this book, the authors interviewed the residents of the Japanese village with the highest percentage of 100-year-olds—one of the world’s Blue Zones。 Ikigai reveals the secrets to their longevity and happiness: how they eat, how they move, how they work, how they foster collaboration and community, and—their best-kept secret—how they find the ikigai that brings satisfaction to their lives。 And it provides practical tools to help you discover your own ikigai。 Because who doesn’t want to find happiness in every day?

When I started reading this book, I was quite impressed by the theme of book and how it was represented。 Initial portion is motivating and things about ikigai kept my interest。But after few chapters everything was on repeating mode and I felt like the book was distracted from its main focus i。e。 '' how to find ur ikigai''。 When I started reading this book, I was quite impressed by the theme of book and how it was represented。 Initial portion is motivating and things about ikigai kept my interest。But after few chapters everything was on repeating mode and I felt like the book was distracted from its main focus i。e。 '' how to find ur ikigai''。 。。。more

The book is a good read, worth spending the time on。 It gives an insight into the various practices that one can adopt to lead to a healthy and meaningful life, by taking the lifestyle of the inhabitants of a Japanese island as an example。 The book also gives us many scientific and philosophical tips to lead such a life。 The major issue that I found with the book is that there is no convergence of ideas。 The chapters are loosely presented with suggestions to improve living。 While I find no issue The book is a good read, worth spending the time on。 It gives an insight into the various practices that one can adopt to lead to a healthy and meaningful life, by taking the lifestyle of the inhabitants of a Japanese island as an example。 The book also gives us many scientific and philosophical tips to lead such a life。 The major issue that I found with the book is that there is no convergence of ideas。 The chapters are loosely presented with suggestions to improve living。 While I find no issues in the facts and philosophies, it was not, at least for me, a pleasurable read。 。。。more

If you are seeking purpose and looking for reasons for being then this book is a must。 I listened to it first on audible but then felt compelled to read the book too。 Well written and gives a beautiful insight into this Japanese philosophy。 It inspired me to take stock of my life and fill it with the things I love to do。

Few chapters are boring。 A calming read。 Has some great insights into different cultures and how they are structured to make it easy to live longer。

1 star for mish-mashed content and 0。5 star for execution。 Its ironic that this book lacks flow in its writing which is evident in its narration。

This book is very much a review article of all things correlated with long life and well being。 I liked the part about Japan and the lifestyle of Okinawan people。 But did not enjoy the rest of it as it mostly felt like a collection of random snippets from wikipedia。 And the book simply states the practices followed by people and doesn't try to delve into making connections between the ideas they point to。 But it will surely spark your curiosity to see and experience Okinawa。 This book is very much a review article of all things correlated with long life and well being。 I liked the part about Japan and the lifestyle of Okinawan people。 But did not enjoy the rest of it as it mostly felt like a collection of random snippets from wikipedia。 And the book simply states the practices followed by people and doesn't try to delve into making connections between the ideas they point to。 But it will surely spark your curiosity to see and experience Okinawa。 。。。more

It was my first self-help book。I normally don't like reading such books because the gist of a lot of those is something I feel I already have gathered from around different sources including books excerpts, YouTube videos about people and places and science, listening to people no matter what age and may be more, and going over such books makes me feel like I'm being reiterated all those points。 The problem is I'm just too lazy to follow up on these。But still, I went through this book and didn't It was my first self-help book。I normally don't like reading such books because the gist of a lot of those is something I feel I already have gathered from around different sources including books excerpts, YouTube videos about people and places and science, listening to people no matter what age and may be more, and going over such books makes me feel like I'm being reiterated all those points。 The problem is I'm just too lazy to follow up on these。But still, I went through this book and didn't get bored as it never felt like I was being lectured。 It is written in such a way like I'm being told about many different places, the culture, the landscape and all。 I could actually make pictures inside my head of the places that were told about in this one and it was good for me。 I gave four stars to this book, because after anything, it is a self-help book。 。。。more

Well, the main ideas of the book repeat themselves sooo often that it is getting more boring with every step。And yeah, to live longer you need to eat more veggies, work more and spend more quality time with family and friends。 Noted, not that I am going to follow these)I didn’t like the authors’ ideas against multitasking, no matter what : it is one thing that I am never giving up on) Multitasking for life!

Nothing new here。 Just reminders to eat your veggies and exercise lol。 Very shallow case studies about Japanese culture with no flow or structure whatsoever。 I guess I'm rating it at 2 stars instead of 1 is because I've read shittier self help books than this so now my standards are low。 Nothing new here。 Just reminders to eat your veggies and exercise lol。 Very shallow case studies about Japanese culture with no flow or structure whatsoever。 I guess I'm rating it at 2 stars instead of 1 is because I've read shittier self help books than this so now my standards are low。 。。。more
